Pediatric Care
Dr. DiMartino has also taken over 180 hours of continuing education for the care of the pediatric patient and is committed to not only being a Chiropractor but a Pediatric Chiropractor as well. He has treated kids with abnormal spinal curves, scoliosis, colic, headaches (migraine and tension), ADD, ADHD, cerebral palsy, along with treating many children for general wellness care. Dr. DiMartino has a passion for treating kids and encourages all parents to have their children assessed in the office, because you never know what the full potential of a child can be until you remove the interferences in their bodies and let them function at their peak.
Most parents when asked to picture the first trauma that their child suffered recall a gut wrenching memory of them falling down stairs, falling off a bed, stumbling while learning to walk and hitting their head on some hard object, falling off their bike, etc. However, EVERY single one of us had the same first trauma in our lives - that trauma was the birthing process. The birth of a baby is a miraculous and beautiful event but if you stop and think about what happens during that event it can be pretty eye opening to say the least. The pressures that are created by a vaginal delivery are great, so great in fact, that the cranial form is distorted as the baby makes it's way through the birth canal- resulting in the term "cone head". If the baby wasn't positioned perfectly, as is the case with over 60% of babies, there may be excess stress on the neck and head from this alone but when you add in medical intervention with forceps, vacuum, or doctor assisted pulling the risk for injury skyrockets. This type of pressure on those structures may cause certain issues such as torticollis, colic, misshapen skull, decrease of range of motion, scoliosis, abnormal latching during nursing, etc. Babies who are born through cesarean section undergo trauma through direct force being applied to remove them from the small incision made in their mother's abdomen. Additionally, bypassing the normal birthing process means that these babies miss out on the benefits of the steps in the natural birthing process that help to prepare and strengthen them to survive outside the womb. For example, c-section babies are not exposed to the bacteria that vaginally birthed babies are and often develop immune issues as a result. The good news is that chiropractic has been shown to be an effective treatment for these and other pediatric conditions.
